OBEDIENCE TRAINER AND INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM

My Apprenticeship Program will teach you how to become a professional dog trainer.  At present I offer two programs; the first is for Obedience Trainer and Instructor, and a more advanced program, for graduates of the Obedience Trainer and Instructor program; the Advanced Training and Behaviour Modification program.

The Obedience Trainer and Instructor program consists of 600 hours of complete study; focusing on both learning theory and hands on application.  This program is one of the few programs across North America that provides a variety dogs for students to learn upon and train.  Hands-on training and the application of learned theory and techniques is a vital and necessary component of any successful dog training program.  The following areas of study will be thoroughly explained and demonstrated, while providing ample opportunity for students to practice and apply their lessons.

600 hours of study

  • 150 hrs of class study, which includes: numerous readings, 1 written essay, 3 assignments (both written and applied), and 2 Exams
  • 350 hrs of hands on training with a variety of dogs.
  • 100 hrs of teaching experience with actual clients; kennel care/work and administrative duties. The teaching portion will include both private lessons, and group instruction.

Students must obtain a minimum of 80% on all written assignments and exams and have fulfilled all of the required hours of hands-on training and other duties to be issued a certificate of completion and the title of Obedience Trainer and Instructor. All students will be given an application to the International Association of Canine Professionals, where they can write a regulated exam and video submission for review by the governing body. Students graduating from my program will be able to easily complete the exam and practical requirements of the IACP certification process.
